- Don’t have a joker? It’s not the end of the world: Just because you don’t have a joker, does not mean you’re destined to lose. While others may have a joker and bad cards, you may have excellent cards and no joker. It’s just a slice of life. You can very well win without a joker and here’s how. If you think your opponent is making a particular sequence and you have the card, hold on to it for as long as you can before you need to discard it. It’s always good to be calculative in your moves, so keep a watchful eye on those around you and if you need to, discard a card you need, just to throw your competition off. Fun fact: Sometimes you might want to throw a joker away, because it adds no value to your game at all.
- To discard or not to discard, that is the question: You know what they say, “keep your cards close but your enemies’ cards closer”. The second aspect is to discard cards close to the joker. For example, if 8♥ is the joker, discard cards close to it like 5♥, 6♥, 7♥ and 9♥. Your opponent, in all likelihood, would not waste the joker just to form a pure sequence with it.
- What you pick is what you play: While discarding is a very important and strategic move in rummy, the online game, picking the right cards is just as important. So, make sure your cards are organised well and in the right order before the picking begins. Keep in mind that every time you pick a card, you leave behind a clue for your opponent and they are on to you. So every now and then, either pick a card they would never expect you to or throw away a card that you need, to throw them off a bit. For example. If you have a Q♥ and Q♠, then discarding a J♣ might confuse them and in turn, one of them might discard the Q♣ and with that, you have your set of 3 Qs. Sneaky, isn’t it?
